I’m not trying to surpass Messi – Neymar

The Brazil and Barcelona star is not comparing himself to his illustrious club team-mate.

Barca’s first-choice front three scored 122 goals between them last season as the Catalan outfit won a famous treble.

However, with Messi is superb individual form since the turn of the year, edging out the Argentine is quite the task. Battling to save the side from relegation it has been a dream return for the 1999 World Player of the Year, who even set up his son Rivaldinho in a 3-1 over Macae.

Neymar is suspended for Brazil’s World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Venezuela after his red card against Colombia at the Copa America, but will be back when his country meets Argentina.

Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic says that a lot of defensive work is needed for Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi to thrive. Playing against him is not good; it’s bad. “It will be a tough game, but the truth is that all qualifiers will be tough”.

The Brazilian’s strike against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League has been included on the shortlist for Uefa Goal of the Season.

Along with Neymar, Dani Alves and Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the pair will undergo medical tests on Thursday ahead of full training sessions with the rest of the squad on Friday and Saturday.

Barcelona forward Neymar has revealed it would be a great honour for him if he was able to make it into the top three in the race for the 2015 Ballon d’Or.
