LG doubling number of OLED TV models

Several new 55 and 65 inch OLED 4K models with flat screen and HDMI 2.0a connectivity for true HDR support are coming to stores in September and anticipation is high among some followers of OLED. Pricing for those models has not been announced.

Our pals at TechRadar report that the South Korean company will be unveiling the world’s first TV that uses OLED display technology (currently regarded as the best display tech going)…in 4K…

The introduction of the EF9500 OLED 4K TV series marks a significant milestone in the expansion of the LG OLED TV portfolio, tripling the number of models in less than a year.

Samsung Electronics will unveil a digital signage lineup that presents futuristic smart shopping styles during IFA 2015, which is scheduled to be held in Berlin, Germany from September 4 to 9. This is what makes OLED technology an ideal match for HDR content because only OLED panels can deliver the absolute black which makes the bright colors of HDR look even more impressive. In addition, the televisions will also incorporate support for high dynamic range content from streaming services and external sources. This is a perk that LG will be delivering via a firmware upgrade.

LG’s range of OLED TVs includes access to its webOS smart TV platform.

Interestingly, three of the new models LG 65EF9500, LG 55EF9500 and LG 55EG9200 will all be flat rather than curved, going against current trends – though LG will also be making the curved LG 55EG9100 too.

Wondering what smart TV to buy? It features simple switching to let users quickly shift to any content they’d like, as well as simple discovery to help find new sources of entertainment from 4K partners such as Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, and YouTube, and many more Full HD options. “Our expanded 4K OLED TV lineup will demonstrate to consumers that OLED is here to stay and that LG is committed to leading the next generation TV market”.

According to LG, the devices are now available at “more mainstream price points”.

The Hisense 65-inch 65H10 ($2,999) and 55-inch 55H9 ($1,299) will start shipping in October.
