There have been endless discussions, heated debates and finger pointing regarding the supposed “design flaw” of the Galaxy Note 5 that obviously damages your device when you put in your S Pen backwards. Once you insert the pen far enough in the wrong direction (again, which causes no unusual resistance or feel than putting it in the right way), it will get stuck.

Android Police first noted that inserting the stylus backward and then removing it causes a detection feature for the S-Pen to stop working permanently. But it’s really what makes a Note a Note, and Samsung has improved it to the point where you can even write on the screen while it’s off and it will record your memos. The Galaxy Note 5 is also not different. Samsung is counting on the Note 5 and the curved-screen Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to help its products stand out from Apple Inc. and hundreds of vendors selling smartphones using Google Inc.’s Android software.

Users who have already gotten their own Galaxy Note 5 unit have immediately complained about the S Pen.

In the past Samsung’s devices with the “F” model number have been released in Europe, so this new version of the Galaxy Note 5 could be the European version of the device. This flaw can break the S Pen detection functionality on the phablet if one wrongly insert it into the compartment. It worked fine for a while, but it broke eventually after taking the S Pen in and out a few times the correct way.

What’s more interesting is that Samsung gives a warning to its users for handling the stylus with care which just narrows down things to one question whether Samsung knew about this flaw beforehand or not.

Here’s the Galaxy Note 5 with the S-Pen out.

The problem occurs when the S-Pen that comes with the device is inserted with the nib pointing outward. Still, Samsung may want to get out in front of this a little more, beyond just telling people to follow the instruction manual.
