Katie Ledecky lowers own world mark in 800 freestyle

She basically swam against herself in Kazan.

There’s no stopping Katie Ledecky. The sense of accomplishment was complete. When it was over, for the first time all week, she exhaled. Ledecky walked away from the competition with five gold medals, a world record, and created a new thing, the “Ledecky Slam”.

“It was August 8, I was swimming the 800m and believe it or not it would have been my grandfather’s 88th birthday”. She tore off one of her two swim caps and smashed the water with her hand in celebration of her third world record in Russian Federation.

[USA Swimming’s team director has never seen anything like Katie Ledecky].

“Im just very happy that hes back to his good form, so he cant come out and say, ‘Oh, I havent been training or all that rubbish that hes been talking, ” Le Clos said. “That’s it”, said Silva, who declined to identify the Brazilian swimmer. That’s what (coach) Bruce (Gemmell) wanted me to do, and he told me to put that in the last 75. I knew I could finish hard because I had done what I needed to do the first 100.

“I don’t really think about the historical aspects during the meet, but I guess I can now and I will cherish these moments”, a beaming Ledecky added. The only other swimmer to set so many records so quickly in a young career is Michael Phelps.

In May, Ledecky said she will delay her enrollment at Stanford University for one year, until the fall of 2016, reports Montgomery Community Media. In his mind, perfection doesn’t exist, and “best ever” is temporary. I witnessed her breaking American records in distance races back home. [But] we have ways we can get better. “And obviously she’s won the 200 now as well, so we all need to work on our speed as well”. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she returned the next night to win the 200 against a stellar field.

That last turn, at the 750-meter mark, found Ledecky bearing down at full-throttle.

She holds the hat-trick of world records in the 400, 800 and 1500m freestyle, despite having only graduated from high school recently. (Sorry to be a party-pooper!) Her best shot would theoretically be in the 1,500 meters, where she is about 55 seconds behind Sun Yang of China.

“That is something which is so, so special”.

Australia’s Cate Campbell, fresh from losing her 100m freestyle crown to sister Bronte on Friday, topped the semi-finals in the women’s 50m free. “That sets me up really well for the rest of the week”. Not that she was complaining about 8:07.

Ledecky broke onto the global scene in the 2012 London Olympic Games with a gold-medal effort in the 800 freestyle. “She’ll be the big story leading up to Rio, while Franklin will take more of a supportive role”.

Ledecky’s dominance has led to inevitable comparisons to men.

Following her 200m backstroke silver on Saturday, however, she did show glimpses of her undeniable talent when she produced a brilliant anchor leg in the mixed 400m freestyle relay to help the U.S snatch a stunning gold in a world record time. “I noticed the occasions”, Phelps stated, with a figuring out grin.

Pellegrini is 27 and debuted at the Olympics in 2004, meaning the veteran could have a tough time keeping pace with Ledecky, nine years her junior, going into 2016. It just makes him go faster. “Katie Ziegler is from the Potomac Valley-Washington, D.C., area”.

She’s getting her wisdom teeth pulled this week. At least it buys her a break from practice. Three years later, Ledecky is the most dominant freestyle swimmer on Earth.
