Network completes shared GSM/3G/LTE network

Telecoms operators typically offer to sell spectrum or let rivals access their network in return for regulatory approval for their mergers.

Nokia Networks, which was the sole radio and services vendor for the project, provided its Single RAN Advanced platform built around its multiradio base stations. Also, Nokia Networks’ NetAct network management system ensures effective monitoring, management and optimization of the shared network.

Louise Suhr, head of TTN customer team at Nokia Networks, says, “Our unique solution and ability to manage complex network sharing projects allowed TTN to create Denmark’s best mobile network more rapidly and more efficiently than either partner could have done on its own”.

TT-Network CEO Johan Wickman said this is the first time a network across GSM, 3G and LTE has been supplied to two operators sharing the network and frquencies.

In late June the European Commission sent a statement of objections to the companies, expressing concern about the impact on competition from the deal.

“We will continue our constructive dialogue with the Commission and we hope to see an approval later this year”, he said, declining to give any details.

European Union antitrust regulators have recently extended the deadline to reach a final decision over the plan by TeliaSonera and Telenor to merge their mobile subsidiaries in Denmark to October 7.
