Gazans still in misery 10 years after Israeli disengagement — News Analysis

Palestinian analysts and political observers believe that ten years after the Israeli disengagement, the Gaza Strip has been witnessing unsteady periods and big changes that all served Israel’s interest rather than the Palestinians. Israel fears a hunger striking prisoner’s death could spark violence.

The law passed by a slim margin in July and elicited harsh criticism.

Israel’s Medical Association has urged physicians not to cooperate with the measure.

Allan has been on hunger strike in Israeli jails for 58 consecutive days.

I am not willing to see the streets of Israel filling up with hundreds of terrorists who went on hunger strike and were released. Supporters also countered that force-feeding is preferable to letting a patient die.

For many, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the quintessential example of a violent confrontation without end.

Sources from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said that a PRCS paramedics rushed to provide emergency treatment for Jomhoor, but they were prevented from approaching the scene.

But in both instances, doctors criticized the committee’s decision and refused.

Law enforcement authorities in Israel, the Knesset, and the courts can not wash their hands of such murderous zealots.

Jamil al-Khatib, a lawyer for Mr Allan, told the AFP news agency that he had heard his client had gone into a coma and that Israeli authorities were planning to force-feed him. He lost consciousness on Friday at the Barzilai hospital in Ashkelon. It was not clear what the liquids were. The victim said he was attacked while fueling his vehicle.

Allan’s father said his son had been imprisoned from 2006-09 for alleged affiliation with the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad.

Mr Allan has been held without charge since November.

The lawyer had previously described Allan’s condition as “very frail” – and suggested that force-feeding could “kill him”.

A Palestinian prisoner on a hunger strike for 60 days was placed on an artificial respirator and given fluids intravenously on Friday after his lungs stopped working and he had seizures.

Israel in the past has acceded to hunger-striking prisoners’ demands and has sometimes released prisoners.

Unaffiliated terror cells are growing in number and tend to be hard for security services to monitor, according to the Times of Israel. The government has not been able to find doctors who will cooperate. Several prisoners died around the 60-day mark of the 1981 Irish hunger strike.

The drama recalls similar fights over force-feeding of detainees at the U.S. prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. According to the Shin Bet, Allaan was in touch with Islamic Jihad forces and was planning to assist the group in the execution of large-scale terror attacks.
