China’s economy was resilient and had the capacity to maintain a long-term medium-to-high growth rate, state media reported President Xi Jinping telling USA business leaders and former officials yesterday.

China crushes its soybean imports into soyoil for food processing and soymeal for livestock feeds.

Although the deals are seen as political gestures, they could boost the USA soy market, where the front-month contract traded at 6-1/2-year lows last week. He also said that China’s aims to conclude the China-US BIT negotiations during the Obama administration.

“We are preparing a number of measures that will indicate to the Chinese that this is not just a matter of us being mildly upset”, Obama told business leaders at the meeting.

China, however, dismisses the claims and says Washington’s cyber attack accusations are hypocritical, since intelligence leaks have revealed numerous times that the United States itself is the most active perpetrator of cyber espionage against other countries.

USA officials said any announcement would be made only after Xi’s visit.

“A major highlight of President Xi’s visit to the USA will be his interactions with the American people”, Wang said, adding that Xi will talk with state politicians, entrepreneurs, teachers and students.

“I also hope and believe that with our joint efforts my visit will achieve the effect of deepening understanding and friendship between our two peoples and attaining new developments”, Xi said.

The phrase is vague enough that experts fear it could potentially lead to government-mandated backdoors into smartphones, Internet services and any other tech product US companies decide to release for Chinese consumers.

So far, the USA government would not comment on what kind of actions will be taken against those responsible for the cyber attacks.

Lu Wei, who oversees China’s Internet policies and cybersecurity, will be attending the forum.

A senior United States official insisted that Obama would not shy away from areas of disagreement.

The official said China should not feel like it needs to step in and stop declines in financial markets every time investors send it signals about the economy.
