The FBI is investigating after a woman fell from a cruise ship off Cape Ann and died Friday.

The ship immediately slowed and began search-and-rescue operations, according to the Seattle, Wash.-based subsidiary of cruise giant Carnival Corp.

The 650-foot cruise ship, Seabourn Quest, is from the Bahamas and left Boston on Friday afternoon.

At around 8:30 p.m., a rescue vessel containing Co-harbormasters Scott Story and Rosemary Lesch, and Emergency Medical Service personnel, recovered the woman’s body, the Boston Globe said.

The FBI says they handle all death investigations that occur on the ocean. “We are deeply saddened by this loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this hard time”.

The Seabourn Quest is a 32,000 gross ton vessel that can carry 450 passengers.
