Toyota “Auris Cross” reportedly coming to 2016 Geneva Motor Show

The new model will likely be based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) that is scalable to a large extent and can be used as a platform for all vehicle sizes having front-, rear- and even all-wheel drivetrains. By 2020, around half of all Toyotas will be based on the platform, with the next-generation Prius kick-starting use of the technology.

The C-HR’s looks were created in response to a demand from company boss Akio Toyoda for Toyota’s designers to be more adventurous. Despite being smaller than the Qashqai, Autocar understands that it would have the same interior space.

Toyota look set to retain much of the C-HR’s look in the production model (rumoured to be called ‘Auris Cross’), in a bid to attract customers considering the likes of the Nissan Juke. Toyota’s answer to the Nissan Qashqai and by extension, the Honda HR-V, will be going on sale early next year at Geneva Motor Show.

Rumours suggest the crossover could be called Auris Cross, although there has been no official confirmation of this. Speaking of the interior, it will be part of a new wave from Toyota to boost quality so expect more soft touch plastics and an overall improved fit & finish. “We’re serious about it, yes”, affirmed Karl Schlicht, Toyota Europe’s sales chief, in an interview with CarAdvice. “If such a product were to launch, I’m confident it could be a best-seller”.
