RCMP officials credited tips via social media sites like Twitter for helping to quickly close in on the accused murderer, many prompted by an Amber Alert that was activated three hours after Blanchette’s body was discovered in his home Monday. Some just stood in stunned silence.

RCMP say Saretzky lived in Blairmore and came from a well-liked family in the Crowsnest Pass area.

After issuing Amber Alerts, RCMP reach out to organizations like Child Find Saskatchewan to assist in the investigation.

Police continue to investigate the murders of two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette and her father Terry Blanchette and are searching several areas in and around the town of Blairmore for evidence. “He did everything he could for that little girl”, Tracey told CBC News on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, RCMP took Saretzky in for questioning.

Hailey’s grandfather, Kevin Dunbar, says he didn’t know the suspect but he wants the truth about Saretzky’s relationship with his daughter to be known.

He thanked RCMP personnel for their “determination and professionalism” in handling the investigation.

“We’re a very tight-knit community and this affects everybody. This speaks to the power of the greater community’s collective efforts in the support of public safety”.

–10:00 a.m. Police hold a press conference to announce charges have been laid against 22-year-old Derek Saretzky. He is in police custody and will next appear in court in Lethbridge on September 23.

Mainstream media has had access to numerous friends, family and other community contacts via their postings about the tragedy; on Wednesday, people like Hailey’s grandmother Terry-Lynn Dunbar were posting heartbreaking stories about the impact the deaths were having on the families. Blanchette’s Facebook posts switched from talk of court dates to pictures of him with his baby daughter. Neighbours have said the two men didn’t get along.

“He was taking good care of her. There was always laughing and giggling going on over there”.

A white van that matched the description of a vehicle seen driving off from the homicide scene was also located in the area, but Hamori said investigators are still working to determine if it’s the van they are seeking.

Investigators have not released the cause of Meketech’s death and are asking anyone with information to call police or Crimestoppers. A pink sign with a single teddy bear attached read: “Please bring our baby Hailey home safe”.
