The Surface Pro 4 will come in only one size.

Just like with all of the other iPads, the iPad Pro will have its own Smart Cover made by Apple. The later, which incorporates numerous features found on the Surface Pro 3, remains nonetheless an overgrown iPad Air running a mobile OS that can’t compare to the functionality of the Surface Pro 3 running Windows 10.

Unveiled Wednesday in San Francisco, the iPad Pro includes a 12.9-inch Retina display, a 64-bit A9X chip, whose processing power the company claims is on par with most portable PCs on the market. We’ve had the privilege of reviewing every Surface machine since its inception three years ago and can honestly say that each passing release has grown on me more and more.

Because the iPad Pro has 75 more screen estate than the next biggest iPad, it is a given that Apple included more pixels per inch. That makes it as big as the iPhone 6 Plus, but with a higher-resolution screen.

The phone is expected to release with a 21-megapixel PureView Zeiss 6-lens primary camera, and an 8-megapixel Zeiss wide-angle shooter in the front. The device came with a larger display, slimmer body, a greatly improved kickstand, a better keyboard, and Windows 8.1, which corrected some of the problems with Windows 8.

A relatively quiet week for Microsoft saw the firm deliver a new preview release of the Windows 10 Mobile platform for smartphones, while speculation mounted over a hardware event the firm is hosting next month: will it see the launch of the next Surface Pro? Both of these are expected to be powered by Intel’s upcoming Skylake processors. The ARM-based processor that Microsoft’s Lumia phones use generally prevents that sort of thing. The latter have been dominating the smartphone market with their respective iOS and Android operating systems, thereby leaving Windows in its wake. Apple has some brand new features on the iPad Pro and iOS 9 really does bring a whole new level of complexity to the device. At that time Microsoft even demonstrated the prowess of this smart-glasses headset that is a cordless, self-contained Windows 10 computer.

Just like the Surface Pro took a gimmicky-sounding idea (a tablet with a keyboard?) and turned it into a new, widely-imitated form factor, the Surface Phone can do the same by following the same productivity-driven lead. The iPad Pro also underscores how the company’s positioning toward enterprises has changed under CEO Tim Cook.

The 2015 could easily be seen as Microsoft’s comeback year.
