Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is still keen to strengthen his squad and the midfield powerhouse is surely one of his primary targets at the moment.

“We are not in trouble”, Mourinho said as quoted by The Times.

He added: “I have a good squad”.

The Premier League champions have now switched their focus to Argentina defender Ezequiel Garay and Monaco’s Aymen Abdennour as the look to bolster their defence.

Furthermore, Chinese defender, Zhang Linpeng, has received a formal invitation from Chelsea, although it would represent a little consolation in Mourinho’s troubled pursuit of John Stones. We are not panicking because the transfer window closes in a couple of days.

A £73m bid would surely turn the heads of Juventus officials, however, Pogba is contracted to the Serie A club until 2019 and can turn down a move to the Blues even if the two clubs agree a fee.

Chelsea will have to break the British transfer record and pay £72m to sign France midfielder Paul Pogba, 22, from Juventus, and pay him £82.5m over five years, the Daily Express reports.

Chelsea have already loaned £26m Juan Cuadrado to Juventus and there is interest also in Oscar, Ramires and Willian from the Champions League runners up.

With one week left to make signings, the footballing world will be watching and waiting to see how much Chelsea can test their resolve.

Furthermore, the Bianconeri have a lucrative deal in place to sell Pogba to Barcelona.
