The jobless rate was never as high as originally announced, because the state’s Department of Labor later revised all the monthly numbers downward. The USA jobless rate last month was 5.1 percent.

State and local employment data are derived independently from the national statistics, which are typically released on the first Friday of every month. It was the best August job growth in more than a decade, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said Thursday.

Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for August was 6.3 percent, up two-tenths of a percentage point from July.

The state’s civilian labor force, which includes the number of Arkansans employed and those seeking work, grew by 38,500 since August 2014.

More than 42,400 jobs were added over the past year, a 3.1 percent increase region-wide. The rate fell below 5 percent for 30 consecutive months from January 1999 to June 2001.

Weaver said that someone who works for the National Forest Service in a seasonal position locally might be laid off and move into the retail sector around the holidays.

The federal government added 200 jobs, but 300 state jobs went away during August. In the east Valley, Glendale reported 6.7 percent for August and Burbank had 5.7 percent.

In a year-over-year comparison (August 2014 to August 2015), nonfarm payroll employment in California increased by 470,000 jobs (up 3.0 percent).

Georgia’s unemployment rate hasn’t been this low since May 2008, just as the nation was plunging into a deep recession.

The state has added more than 2 million jobs since California’s recovery began in February 2010.
