Teva, as one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, will help IBM to improve the Watson Health Cloud’s capabilities and its integration with existing Watson Health ecosystem partners.

According to IBM Watson Health, the IBM Watson Health Cloud for Life Sciences Compliance will work with a number of biomedical companies and help them introduce their newly invented products in the medical sector efficiently.

While Watson is more artificial intelligence than aggregator, there seems to be some overlap with Salesforce Health Cloud, as well as with precision medicine companies Persevia and NantHealth.

IBM claimed that Watson has made significant inroads into the market since its introduction five months ago. The new Care Manager system could allow medical professionals’ to consider a broad ranger of factors when working out a personalized patient engagement program.

Located at 75 Binney Street in Cambridge’s Kendall Square, IBM Watson Health will serve as a home base for more than 700 IBM employees. Delivered through the cloud, Watson is able to crunch the data as well as complex queries posed in natural language and recommends evidence-based options.

IBM also said Deborah DiSanzo is joining the company as general manager of IBM Watson Health. DiSanzo will be based in the new Cambridge headquarters and will report to Michael Rhodin, senior vice president, IBM Watson Group.

IBM named five new partners that will work with IBM Watson for healthcare-related applications that include drug discovery and development, personalized medicine, chronic disease management, pediatrics, and digital health. “The IBM Watson Health Cloud for Life Sciences Compliance will help ensure that the infrastructure, network, and platform remains stable, consistent, and thoroughly documented with the required change controls”.

“By applying IBM Watson to our clinical trials, we have the potential to revolutionize clinical trial feasibility, patient recruitment and study start-up timelines”, Cutler said in a separate release.

Right now, IBM’s revenues are declining faster than the new areas are building up, but Rometty is moving full-steam ahead, launching new business units, spending billions to build out IBM’s cloud, and signing on new partners ranging from Apple to China’s Tencent.

Finally, Irish contract research organization Icon ($ICLR) announced it is adopting the Watson Clinical Trial Matching platform. They follow CVS Health, Medtronic and Yale University. Already, IBM has entered into partnerships with various institutions to expand the opportunities for Watson Health. IBM will integrate Watson’s iterative question and answer capability with BHC’s OPENPediatrics initiative, which aims to bring medical knowledge to pediatric caregivers worldwide.
