“We are aiming for long-term goals”, said Foessel.

Kenneth Trudgeon, of London, Ont. won the bronze in F46 men’s discus with 37.12.

Guillaume Ouellet of Victoriaville, Que also took home a gold in the men’s T13 1500m. Kyle Whitehouse of St. Catharines, Ont., added a gold medal in the men’s T38 200. They will face Brazil on Friday in the semis. “We’re just so happy to be going to Rio!” Verfuerth, who received a wild card into this year’s US Open Wheelchair Competition in Flushing, N.Y., is also the head coach of the girls’ tennis team at Flagstaff High School. Both teams will play Canada in the semifinals Friday, with the medal round to follow Saturday.

Women _ Canada (1-3) lost 3-0 to Brazil in the semifinals.
