Presumably, the idea of a $50 Android tablet is that you’ll use it to buy stuff off Amazon, read books, and watch your Amazon Instant Video™ subscription.

Amazon also plans to release 8-inch and 10-inch screen tablets, the report said. It might not do that by launching a powerhouse, instead if a new report is to be believed Amazon might try to fight on price by launching a 6 inch Fire tablet that’s priced very competitively against its rivals in the market. The company reportedly outsourced a lot of the tablet’s development to overseas companies like Shanghai Huaqin Telecom Technology Co. and Compal Communications Inc.in order to help get its price down.

But for $50, the tablet will have to be kind of crap. The Wall Street Journal is reporting this tablet will arrive alongside a refreshed Kindle lineup this Fall. Shipments of Apple’s tablets, including the larger-screen iPad and the iPad Mini, have declined 26 percent compared with the second quarter of 2013, IDC reported. Apparently that’s not cheap enough for Amazon, though, because a new report claims that the mega retailer is prepping an even lower-cost Android tablet. That model hasn’t exactly been successful when it comes to Android as they recently discontinued the Amazon Fire Phone.
