‘Winds of Winter’ Update: Next Book Is ‘A Dream of Spring’

Martin’s upcoming “Song of Ice and Fire” novel, the book series which “Game of Thrones” is based on, is titled “The Winds of Winter“.

It has been almost four years since George R.R. Martin has released a book in the series, and with “The Winds of Winter” not even published yet, it’s unlikely that he’ll get the seventh book, “A Dream of Spring”, complete before “Game of Thrones” will air its finish on HBO. Already, HBO has outpaced the books in its fifth season. But while Martin holds to the answer that “anything is possible” heres why he doesnt want his fans to worry (via Geekwire): There was a period where I was anxious about that. “So who the hell knows?” he said.

“I’ve said before that the tone of the ending that I’m going for is bittersweet”.

HBO are now filming the sixth season of the record-breaking fantasy drama and recently suggested they’ll be wrapping up on the eighth.

The author admitted it bothered him at first that the TV adaptation will overtake his books, but Martin said he already accepted this possibility and worrying about it isn’t going to change anything. It was still unknown when the author’s sixth book in the series, “The Winds of Winter“, would be released, but Martin read a chapter from his next novel at the convention, reported Business Insider. For example, Martin revealed that a character, Princess Arianne of Dorne, does not even come into the TV series version at all. I still sit down at the typewriter, and I have to write the next scene and the next sentence Im just going to tell my story, and theyre telling their story and adapting my books, and we shall see. I would love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.

For now, the producers of the HBO series, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, are planning to do eight seasons of the show.

Martin is a bit stingy when it comes to questions regarding the volume’s release.

In an interview with D’Brickashaw Ferguson of the New York Jets, George R.R. Martin assured fans that they can both enjoy “Game of Thrones” and the novels at the same time.

“Don’t ask me when the book is going to be done – I’ll ask my minions to lop your head off”, he joked.
